Liquid qualify for FISSURE Playground 2 playoffs over FaZe, practically seal Major spot
Liquid have locked in FISSURE Playground 2 playoffs this morning, September 17th. They defeated FaZe in the first of three 2-2 matches of the Swiss group stage, thanks to stellar performances from Roland "ultimate" Tomkowiak and, ironically, Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken, who's set to depart Liquid to join FaZe after the Serbian LAN.
The match itself presented a huge conflict of interest, as a result of Twistzz's pending transfer to FaZe, but the Canadian played just like any other day, and delivered exactly the type of performance that Liquid fans expected.
The win also sees Liquid get one step closer toward qualifying for the StarLadder Budapest Major. They earned 80 Valve Regional Standings (VRS) points and climbed up to 16th in Global VRS.
Additionally, Liquid are now 12th in the EU VRS, and 171 points clear of BetBoom, the first team out of the invite zone.
As for the match itself, Liquid beat FaZe comfortably. A nearly flawless T-side on Ancient (10-2) was enough to put Liquid in a great position to win their map pick, and they did so without worry.
FaZe did play better on Dust2, however, Liquid were always in control of the game and won many consecutive rounds in both halves.
Twistzz, Liquid's best player in the tournament so far, had yet another impressive display. And, this time around, he had the help of ultimate, who delivered his best performance in Serbian soil.
While there's plenty to celebrate at the Liquid camp, the organization has plenty to think about, as it must find a way to replace Twistzz, so he can play for FaZe at the Major.
