Americas region set to lose a spot for PGL Major Singapore 2026
With Stage Two of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 wrapping up today, it is confirmed that the Americas region will lose a spot to Europe for the upcoming PGL Major Singapore 2026. As a result, the Americas region will send 9 teams to Singapore while Europe will send a massive 18 teams to the Asian Major.
The change in allocation is due to the Americas region only sending three teams to Stage Three of the IEM Cologne Major 2026. As a refresher, extra spots in the Major are given out based on how many teams a region has in Stage Three of the previous Major, while every region also has a minimum number of teams it sends to the Major.
Using Cologne as an example, the Americas region had ten spots due to its minimum allocation being six teams, while the Americas also earned four spots thanks to FURIA, paiN, Passion UA, and Liquid making Stage Three of the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025.
Looking forward to the PGL Major Singapore 2026, we will send nine squads thanks to FURIA, 9z, and Legacy claiming spots in Stage Three of Cologne.
While far from a worst-case scenario, losing a spot in the Major is far from ideal as it means the region as a whole will earn less sticker money, gain less Major experience, and lose the chance to prove themselves on Counter-Strike 2's largest stage. The change may also hurt NA, especially remembering that Liquid claimed the tenth and final spot for Cologne after their last-minute roster change.
With Brazilian teams expected to hog the top of the Americas Valve Regional Standings (VRS) for some time due to NA's relative weakness, we may only see one or two NA squads head to Singapore.
