Thrown advantages eliminate M80 from IEM Cologne, ending final chance for NA
After a 1-1 day one and a thrashing from BetBoom, M80 came into day three on the verge of elimination. In a tough draw, they faced off against top-ten team Legacy. M80 showed some resilience on both maps, but were ultimately unable to win either.
With M80's elimination, no North American representation remains at IEM Cologne 2026. This makes it the first major in CS:GO/CS2 history to have no NA players in the top sixteen. A somber end to the season for fans of the region.
Legacy chose to start on Dust2 and quickly proved why. After a pistol win, Legacy absolutely dominated the first half as M80 were unable to get any consecutive rounds. Down 2-10 going into the second half, M80 had a better start as they took the pistol and conversions, reducing the gap to 5-10. M80 put up a solid T-side, but the deficit was too much to overcome as they lost the map 8-13.
Map two was M80's pick of Inferno, and again, Legacy won the first pistol and conversions. This time, M80 had a great six-round streak in the middle of the half, followed by three more losses. Going into the second half tied 6-6, M80 lost the pistol and went down 6-9 before they got on the board. The North Americans managed to take the lead back 11-10, but the map went to overtime. After multiple failed advantages, M80 fell 13-16, ending their run at IEM Cologne.
With their loss today to Legacy, M80 will have to wait until the XSE Pro League in early July for their next match.
