M80 triumphant as they bounce back with huge win over B8
After a tough opening loss to G2, M80 have bounced back in their campaign in Stage Two of the IEM Cologne Major with a close 13-10 win over B8 on Mirage. The win over the Ukrainian squad sees M80 end the day with a 1-1 record, guaranteeting NA will have at least two more days in Cologne while M80 chase a spot in Stage Three of the Major.
The win saw another standout performance from Mason "Lake" Sanderson as the burgeoning star rifler posted 25 kills, 99 ADR, and a 1.73 rating.
The two teams faced off on Mirage, a map M80 banned in their last encounter. M80 started on the right foot with a pistol and conversions to take an early 3-0 lead. Once B8 got the guns out, they held M80 at bay with a seven-round streak before M80 finally responded. At the end of the half, the NA side rallied to a 5-7 scoreline, trailing by two heading onto their CT-side. M80's CT-side started with the team winning their second pistol round of the map and the following round, tying things up before B8 answered back with a round of their own.
From there, M80 were the first squad to find double digits after winning the next three rounds before B8 put up their penultimate round in Round 19. Closing in on the end of regulation, M80 passed another milestone by claiming match point before another one-off round from B8 saw the Ukrainian team climb up to ten rounds, however a great post-plant hunt from M80 saw all B8 players deny, effectively breaking their economy. Against this weak buy, M80 were unable to deny B8 an inroad into the B-site before a 2v1 post-plant retake gave M80 the 13-10 win.
