EG stole the show with their stunning performance

Americas RMR team grades

School is in session, let’s see how competing teams fared on the Road to Rio.

Using Dust2.us’ grading model (A = Excellent, B = Great, C = Fair, D = Weak, F = Bad), each attending Americas team has been given a letter grade based on the performance at the event. Sorted by alphabet, these are the final grades of each team at the Americas RMR. For those unfamiliar, SOS, or strength of schedule, is factored using team record, opponent records, and other considerations.

Brazil 00 Nation

RMR record: 3-1
Win against: Isurus, Imperial, Complexity
Loss against: 9z
SOS: 4th
Qualified?: Yes

The opening loss to 9z had many concerned for the form of 00, but they rallied back after the dropped win with three-straight legit wins to brush away a load of worry entering Rio.

Grade: B

9z

RMR record: 3-1
Win against: 00 Nation, Imperial, ATK
Loss against: Evil Geniuses
SOS: 2nd
Qualified?: Yes

The South American underdogs showed incredible grit against 00 Nation and Imperial in pursuit of a seat in Rio. A tough 1-2 loss to EG was the only blemish on an otherwise perfect campaign.

Grade: A-

Brazil ARCTIC

RMR record: 0-3
Win against: -
Loss against: paiN, ATK, Isurus
SOS: 11th
Qualified?: No

ARCTIC entered the event with no expectations as one of the lowest rated teams on the list. The tangible results left so much to be desired as they lost to a weaker group of teams, but these are the necessary growing pains for young lineups looking to become something great in their scene.

Grade: D

World ATK

RMR record: 2-3
Win against: ARCTIC, MIBR
Loss against: Complexity, 9z, paiN
SOS: 13th
Qualified?: No

ATK came to Stockholm with good intentions to put a dent in the event despite being a dark horse at best. The highlight of their effort comes in the form of a win over the underwhelming MIBR. With being the first Major test for a promising ATK lineup, they can go home and build off the positives.

Grade: C-

Complexity

RMR record: 3-3
Win against: ATK, paiN, Isurus
Loss against: Liquid, 00 Nation, Imperial
SOS: 3rd
Qualified?: No

Without a doubt, Complexity entered the RMR with a legitimate shot to secure a seat in Rio. They looked favorable to take the Legends spot after starting 2-0, but three tough draws in qualifying matches was too much for the young guns to overcome.

Grade: B-

Evil Geniuses

RMR record: 3-1
Win against: Nouns, FURIA, 9z
Loss against: Liquid
SOS: 1st
Qualified?: Yes

Nobody surprised spectators more with their performances in Stockholm than Evil Geniuses. Their put-together strategies and seemingly synergistic timings made for arguably the best product in the entire event. The new-look EG looks like a force to be reckon with, as a razor-thin loss to Liquid kept them from the Legend spot.

Grade: A

Brazil FURIA

RMR record: 3-1
Win against: Infinity, O PLANO, paiN
Loss against: Evil Geniuses
SOS: T-14th
Qualified?: Yes

Brazil’s best in FURIA qualified with relative ease thanks to a rather easy schedule. Of course, teams can’t dictate who they play and their sole goal is to beat who is in front of them, so it’s hard to fault FURIA for the easy path. However, the wins didn’t offer anything noteworthy, leaving the EG loss as the sole talking point of their appearance.

Grade: C

Brazil Imperial

RMR record: 5-2
Win against: Isurus, oNe, Nouns, paiN, Complexity
Loss against: 9z, 00 Nation
SOS: 7th
Qualified?: Yes

In the most dramatic fashion, the famed Brazilian last dance grinded their way into the Major, realizing the dream of playing in front of the home crowd. After going down 1-2, the four-series comeback was nothing short of extraordinary.

Grade: C+

Infinity

RMR record: 0-3
Win against: -
Loss against: FURIA, Nouns, oNe
SOS: 10th
Qualified?: No

Nobody had Infinity on their radar as a team to go deep into the event, so it’s not too surprising they went out 0-3. Their appearance, however, is a culmination of the hard work since their move to America, something that shouldn’t be ignored.

Grade: D

Isurus

RMR record: 2-3
Win against: ARCTIC, MIBR
Loss against: Imperial, 00 Nation, Complexity
Schedule Strength: T-8th
Qualified?: No

There weren’t high expectations for Argentina’s Isurus, but there’s no doubt they made the most of their venture. Leaving the RMR knowing the only losses were to Major-ready teams is a reason for optimism, as was the series win over MIBR.

Grade: C+

United States Liquid

RMR record: 4-0
Win against: oNe, MIBR, Complexity, Evil Geniuses
Loss against: -
SOS: 12th
Qualified?: Yes

As favorites to secure the Legend slot, Liquid do not deserve praise for doing what was expected. They were played uncomfortably close to a poorly-performing MIBR team, and were almost bested by EG for the Legend spot. This shaky form is exactly what Liquid fans are used to entering the big dance as there remains some unknown for Liquid’s form ahead of Rio.

Grade: C

Brazil MIBR

RMR record: 1-3
Win against: O PLANO
Loss against: Liquid, ATK, Isurus
SOS: T-14th
Qualified?: No

Without a doubt, no team exited Stockholm with a more abysmal showing than MIBR. The highlight of their event comes in the form of losing to Liquid in a near-upset, as the win over O PLANO is something they should do with consistency. After an undefeated regular-season run in ESL Challenger League, MIBR faltered in replicating their domestic success at LAN with disappointing losses to ATK and Isurus.

Grade: F

United States Nouns

RMR record: 2-3
Win against: Infinity, O PLANO
Loss against: Evil Geniuses, paiN, Imperial
SOS: T-8th
Qualified?: No

Nouns exited the RMR as one of the most promising teams to not qualify for the next stages. Their inexperience had them losing easy games initially, but they pieced it together at the tail end to win over O PLANO and take Imperial to their limit in a BO3. With this being a first-time for these players, there is zero doubts the future is bright.

Grade: C+

Brazil oNe

RMR record: 1-3
Win against: Infinity
Loss against: Liquid, Imperial, O PLANO
SOS: 5th
Qualified?: No

After a stunning 49-13 map record between formation and the RMR, oNe looked poised to piece together their online dominance and finally break the mold of being a baby brother in the Brazilian scene. Unfortunately, it fell apart at LAN as they couldn’t offer much beyond a win over Infinity. Although they played Imperial somewhat tight in their series, the earlier loss to O PLANO was a mishap that sent them into a tough road through.

Grade: D

Brazil O PLANO

RMR record: 1-3
Win against: oNe
Loss against: MIBR, FURIA, Nouns
SOS: T-14th
Qualified?: No

It was hard to take O PLANO serious as a team to go deep in the event, and their results backed up the assumption. The win over oNe was a clear highlight for the team, but in hindsight it was more of a growing opportunity for the newly formed lineup. In time we will see what they make of the LAN experience together.

Grade: D

Brazil paiN

RMR record: 3-3
Win against: ARCTIC, Nouns, ATK
Loss against: Complexity, FURIA, Imperial
SOS: 6th
Qualified?: No

The showing for paiN in Stockholm can best be described as a “treadmill performance”, as they beat the teams they were expected to and lost to the teams they were expected to. In the grander scheme, more reps with the promising bolstered lineup is a plus. But on the topic of the RMR, it was exactly what we expected.

Grade: C+

Col at B- is kinda stupid as they legit missed the major. While teams like Liquid or Furia have a C which I understand is “fair”, but I think they both played really well and did good. People are sugar coating the embarrassment of COL not making the major imo they deserve maybe a C-?
