Valve adds new roster participating requirements to VRS
The latest update to the Valve Regional Standings has been followed by two new changes to the model.
Going forward, a players must now play in at least five of a team's previous ten matches to be included in the main roster. This should prevent instances where a team's ranking could be drastically affected by the inclusion of a temporary stand-in, such as when Complexity competed at the BLAST.tv Austin Major without Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli.
The second change to the ranking model has applied more weight to the early stages of multi-stage events, such as a Major or other large tournaments. "Event stages that can be connected to later event stages (e.g., qualifiers or group stages) now add to their prize pool a portion of the final stage's prize pool," reads the model update.
While the later stages of an event will still weigh more than the earlier stages, this change should even out the distribution. The changes to the model went live today, but those have not altered the global and regional standings that were published yesterday.
