The Latvian will stand in for FURIA through the Austin Major

FURIA CEO: "YEKINDAR's arrival brings the aggressiveness we need"

The former Liquid player has replaced skullz in FURIA's lineup.

Jaime Pádua, one of FURIA's founders and co-CEO, has explained the logic behind the odd decision to add Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis to their roster on April 22nd.

"YEKINDAR's arrival brings the aggressiveness we need, with experience, an active voice and the enormous possibility of making it easier for our dear molodoy to settle into the squad," Mr. Pádua wrote on X.

"Not all decisions are obvious, but we trust the process."

YEKINDAR will stand in for FURIA at PGL Astana and IEM Dallas in May, and more importantly, at the BLAST.tv Austin Major in June. It's unclear whether the Latvian is just a temporary move or if FURIA plan to keep him, depending on how he performs.

The Brazilian organization surely hopes so that YEKINDAR recovers the prime form he displayed on his Virtus.pro days and the beginning of his stint in Liquid.

With YEKINDAR's addition, FURIA has taken yet another step toward a fully international project. The Brazilians had already replaced Marcelo "chelo" Cespedes with the young Kazakh AWPer Danil "molodoy" Golubenko earlier this month, a move that will see Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo give up the AWP and become an IGL rifler like Casper "cadiaN" Møller in Astralis.
