Sponsored by Anthros: Why gamers are ditching their race car chairs

You've been playing in the wrong gear.

Meet the Engineer

Before the product, here's who built it. Steve spent his career at the largest wheelchair manufacturer in the world, designing seating systems for people who literally depend on proper support to live comfortably. He understands sitting at a level no one in the gaming chair market comes close to.

He looked at what gaming brands were making and selling, and thought gamers deserve the best and not to be lied to by brands that say hard foam will break in.

He goes by Painkiller. Not because he top-frags. Because he's on a mission to eliminate sitting pain from the galaxy.

The Problem

Every piece of your setup has evolved. Monitor, mouse, keyboard, headset. But not the chair. Same race car bucket seat design for 20+ years. Here's why that's a problem.

Those shoulder flaps were designed to hold a driver in place at 150 mph. At your desk, they push your shoulders forward and physically block your aim arm from moving freely. You're not missing shots because you're bad. You're fighting your
chair on every flick.

Standard gaming chairs
Race car seat, the actual inspiration

It's not you; it's your chair. That's not a skill issue. That's a gear issue.

THE FIX

Say Goodbye to the Shoulder Flaps

Anthros built from human biomechanics, not automotive aesthetics. The approach is called Anthronomics: engineering the chair around how your body actually works, not how a race car harness holds you in a corner.

The upper back tapers outward. Your shoulders sit behind the chair, not trapped inside it. Your aim arm has full range of motion, unrestricted, every round.

The pelvis is supported in a neutral position so your spine loads correctly and your upper body can actually relax. That race car chair felt fine for an hour? This is why it stops working by hour three.

Anthros is a health and wellness company. We built the first ever science-backed Clinical Performance Chair for hardcore sitters. Whether you're a gamer, streamer, work from home, lawyer, engineer, or someone who just lives at a computer, this
chair was built for you and your health. Your setup should be working for your body, not against it.

COMPARISON WITH THE PROS

Don't take anyone's word for it. Look at the setups.

KSCERATO

Close to the desk, high table, low chair, both arms planted for consistency. In a standard race car chair, the shoulder flaps push him completely off the backrest. He's floating, not supported. In the Anthros, same exact setup: full back contact, full shoulder freedom. No trade-off.

Race chair: no upper back or shoulder support
Anthros: full support

Twistzz

Low table, relaxed arm position, wrist-heavy mousing style. Twistzz relies on clean, uninterrupted glide across the pad. In the race car chair, the shoulder flap bites into his upper arm, creating drag on every wide swipe. In the Anthros, the clearance is there. Full sweep, zero interference.

Race chair: limited range of motion
Anthros: full range of motion

kyousuke

High elbow, tight aiming arm, keeping everything close to the body for control. This setup demands the chair get completely out of the way. In the race car chair, the back flaps crowd directly into that space, banging the elbow and forcing constant micro-corrections. In the Anthros, the upper back clears the space for the elbow to move freely for fast player reaction and nothing is fighting the elbow to stay consistent.

LAN RESULTS

University of Pittsburgh

The University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences ran standardized pressure mapping on 11 leading office and gaming chairs, measuring Peak Pressure Index, the metric that most directly corresponds to how your body loads during extended sitting. Anthros came in at 88.5 mmHg. The Herman Miller Aeron, which most serious desk setups treat as the benchmark, came in at 184, more than double. The Herman Miller Embody at 168. Secretlab TITAN at 166.5.

No paid outcome. No sponsorship arrangement. Just pressure data.

Here are the full results of the University of Pittsburgh's testing.

The Chair Challenge Tour

Anthros hit the road at ESL and DreamHack events in 2025 and paid for every competitor's chair and shipping so attendees could sit in all of them back to back, in person, no pitch. 1,229 votes recorded. 66.1% of real-people voters chose Anthros first: 805 votes for Herman Miller, Embody's 113, Secretlab Titan Evo's 85, Razer's 77, Steelcase Gesture's 52, Maxnomic's 48, and Haworth Fern's 37.

The Results

That's the equivalent of dropping the enemy team an AWP every round and still winning.

What the Pros Are Saying

IGN Best Office and Gaming Chair

NOT A GAMING CHAIR. A HEALTH DEVICE.

Anthros is a health and wellness company. The chair is a FDA-registered medical device, Class I Lumbo-Sacral Orthosis. That's the same classification as clinical seating used in hospitals and rehab centers. Not foam shaped to look ergonomic. Clinically validated.

What that means in a long session:

  • Less pressure on your hips and tailbone so you're not grinding through a session

  • Neutral upright posture your body holds on its own, no forcing it

  • Shoulders and arms completely free to move

  • 60-day money-back guarantee. If it doesn't work for you, you pay nothing.

How to get it:

  • Pay in Full Best value. One payment, 12-year warranty starts immediately.

  • 6-Month Plan 6 equal payments. 0% interest.

  • 12-Month Plan Spread it out. Get the chair now, pay over time.

  • HSA / FSA Eligible Use pre-tax health savings funds.

THE INVESTMENT (QUICK MATH)

The Anthros warranty covers 12 years. That math assumes a casual schedule. Most people reading this are putting in more. And we both know you're not quitting in 12 years.

The only question is whether you want to spend those 14,400 hours in a repurposed race car seat or in something actually built for you.

HELPING OTHERS

A portion of every Anthros purchase supports the Anthros Foundation, providing seating for children and families with mobility challenges who can't afford proper support. The same wheelchair-seating expertise that built this product has been deployed in Guatemala, helping fit 57 children with custom wheelchairs. The origin and the mission are the same thing.
