FaZe brushed aside by paiN in IEM Atlanta opener
paiN outclassed FaZe in the Group A upper quarterfinal to send them to the lower bracket.
It was a disappointing performance for FaZe as a team, as no one really stood out individually in the 0-2 loss. On the other side of the coin, João "snow" Vinicius and Guilherme "piriajr" Barbosa were in great form for paiN, leading them to the win.
The match started with FaZe's Dust2 pick, but it was paiN who started better despite losing the pistol round. After a 3-2 paiN lead to start the map, the Brazilians went on a six-round streak to lock down a 9-3 lead at halftime. FaZe won the first two rounds of the second half, but the comeback was not on. paiN answered back with four of the next five rounds to put FaZe away 13-6.
The second map, paiN's Anubis selection, started nearly the same as the first. This time, FaZe took a 2-0 lead before paiN rattled off nine rounds to hold a commanding 9-3 halftime lead. Contary to the first map, FaZe made a dent in paiN's lead this time around, reducing the deficit to 10-8 quickly in the second period. It wouldn't be enough, though, as paiN closed the map 13-8 before things got too nervy.
The aforementioned snow and piriajr combined for 69 frags in the series, as both logged a 1.40 rating or better, sending FaZe to the lower bracket.
