Aether release roster following internal issues and roster instability
Hours after forfeiting their semifinal against Wildcard in the Thunderpick World Championship NA Series, Aether announced that the entire roster had been released from the organization. The announcement marks the end of an unfortunately turbulent 2026 that nonetheless produced several solid runs in online events.
After the post, Dust2.us talked with team owner Schrei to get insight into the move. All information he gave has been paraphrased.
Despite the team being a consistent presence at many online NA events, turmoil had existed within the squad for a while, according to Schrei. Schrei said that over the last couple of months, there had been many role changes and several heated clashes during matches.
The team took some time off in March, but disagreements regarding the leadership and direction of the team remained prevalent. After solid top-three finishes at ECL S51 Cup 2 and CCT NA Series 4, Sebastian "Seb" Dietrich announced he would be stepping down from the lineup due to a mix of team issues and factors outside the game.
The core of Brett "brett" Rhein, Chance "xaler" Palmer, and newcomer Nazar "H0NeST" Stefinko then began scrimming with former BOSS players Brendan "Bwills" Williams and Keller "SLIGHT" Nilan. Schrei said the squad showed a lot of promise, but brett had to unfortunately step down due to obligations outside the game impacting his ability to lead.
There were talks of adding another former BOSS player to retain a VRS core, but it didn't materialize. After final considerations of Aether becoming more of a mix team, the team decided to go their separate ways.
Regarding the future of the organization, Schrei said that while they would consider coming back with the right opportunity, currently no plans are in place for a new lineup. He also mentioned the organization potentially looking into signing players in other titles like The Finals or Rainbow Six Siege.
Schrei ended the discussion by remarking that overall, the team had high highs and low lows. He also emphasized his support for the players, especially H0NeST, who he views as a player with immense potential.
Aether's lineup was:
-
Brett "brett" Rhein -
Andrew "Andrew" Burrell -
Chance "xaler" Palmer -
Nazar "H0NeST" Stefinko -
Erich "ninja" Beyer (Coach)
