Liquid eliminated from IEM Rio without a map win after a 0-2 loss to 3DMAX
After falling to Spirit 0-2 yesterday, Liquid faced the Frenchmen on 3DMAX in their elimination match at IEM Rio. After choking a big lead on Nuke, Liquid struggled to get going on Ancient as they were unable to find any rounds outside of a brief streak. They now have nearly a month off before their next event in Atlanta.
3DMAX picked Nuke as the first map of the series, but Liquid got the first pistol and conversion. 3DMAX got a few rounds on their T-side, but entered the second half down 4-8. After Liquid won the second pistol and conversions, 3DMAX faced a 4-11 gap. However, Liquid slowly but surely let the lead slip away, sending the map to overtime. Even after that, Liquid got the first two rounds of overtime on their T-side, but let the next four go. 3DMAX took map one 16-14.
Liquid picked Ancient, but lost the first pistol and conversions to give the French an early 4-0 lead. 3DMAX lost five rounds in the middle, but got another three to close the half, ending up 7-5. 3DMAX's CT-side proved too much for Liquid to break through as 3DMAX took the map 13-5, sending them home.
Liquid's next event will be on home soil at IEM Atlanta, which does not begin until May 11th.
