Dust2.us Eagle Masters Series 7 Day 12 recap: Zomblers secure upset win over InControl
Just days after InControl claimed first place in ESL Challenger League S51 Cup 3, they were eliminated in the group stage of the Dust2.us Eagle Masters Series 7. After a 1-2 loss to Zomblers last night, the Ice Legion were eliminated with a 2-3 record for the fourth series in a row. Ouch.
The upset is even more surprising considering the recent announcement that Ben "HAMBOOGA" Wetrich will be retiring from competitive Counter-Strike and that Connor "CoolComs" Barnes is considering exiting the team as well.
Zomblers chose to start the series on Inferno. The first half was back and forth with neither team able to get solid control, as the score ended tied 6-6. After taking the second pistol, Zomblers found a stronger form and managed to close their pick 13-8 despite only winning six opening duels.
InControl picked into Mirage, but started down 0-4. Their T-side picked up with a seven-round streak, followed by a loss at the end to give them a 7-5 lead. InControl picked up where they left off in the second half with a five-round run to give them map point. Zomblers got a few back, but InControl won their pick 13-9, forcing a decider.
Nuke started with another pistol win for InControl, but Zomblers put together a great T-side to enter the second half up 7-5. After taking the second pistol, Zomblers had a nearly flawless CT-side to take the map 13-6.
Tonight will be the last day of play for the group stage as Chicanery takes on mouse at 08:00PM and Aether faces EMPIRE at 09:00PM.
