A clean event win to grab some VRS points

Voca take down Imperial to win NSTLGA Washington Open LAN

This is the organization's first LAN trophy.

After some uneven but promising performances in Europe, Voca returned to the United States to continue their VRS grind in Olympia for the NSTLGA Washington Open. A practically flawless run to the finals matched them against the other noteworthy team at the event: Imperial.

After a dominant first map and a close second, Voca claimed victory and the $2,500 first place prize.

Voca's run began in Group B, but they were clearly a level above the competition. They quickly claimed 2-0s over Gaming Prodigy and Ducky Momo Squad to reach the playoffs. Their semifinal match was a non-starter as they took down West Coast Grinds 13-3 and 13-0 to reach the finals, still yet to lose a map.

They faced Imperial in the final, the other clear favorites for the event. The match began on Imperial's pick of Dust2 with Voca starting down 0-2. The teams traded short round streaks before Voca found their footing to close the half with a solid 8-4 lead. Their T-side was flawless as they won all five rounds to steal Imperial's pick 13-4.

Voca picked Mirage, and it was a far more competitive affair. Voca started strong with a 4-0 lead, but Imperial found their form and tied the game 6-6. Somehow, the second half had the exact same round breakdown in reverse: Imperial won the first four before Voca got enough rounds back to tie the game 12-12. Once they got to overtime, Voca took a commanding 15-12 lead. Imperial got one back, but Voca closed it out 16-13, winning the event.

As only the playoffs were covered by HLTV, Voca's VRS gains weren't massive. They got 9 points, moving them up three spots. However, they are currently above the line to qualify for the IEM Cologne Major. With so few events left, every point counts.

Voca's last event before the VRS cutoff in April is FRAG York, which will run from March 26th to March 29th.
