Passion UA smash fnatic to advance to day four of StarLadder Budapest Major Stage Two
Passion UA have made it into the final day of Stage Two of the StarLadder Budapest Major Stage Two via a decisive 2-0 victory over fnatic. The result sees Passion UA rebound from their one-sided loss to 3DMAX yesterday, with the win over fnatic putting Passion UA one Bo3 from claiming a spot in Stage Three of the Budapest Major.
The series between Passion UA and fnatic kicked off on Overpass with Passion UA starting on a strong footing with an 8-4 T-side punctuated by a 7-1 start to the half. After switching sides, fnatic mounted something of a comeback, fighting back ferociously to take the lead at 11-10 for the first time in the map. However, some good defensive play on the A site towards the end of the map allowed Passion UA to stave off overtime or a potential loss to take Overpass 13-11.
While Overpass was quite competitive, Passion UA were utterly dominant on Inferno. The map started with Passion UA putting on a clinic of a CT-side, starting the half off 6-0 up before ultimately ending the half up 11-1. Notably, Benjamin "blameF" Bremer ended the half with zero kills, being completely out of his element and neutered against Passion UA. Moving into the second half, there was finally some signs of life from blameF and fnatic as they won the first six rounds in a row, making Passion UA sweat a bit for the first time in the map.
However, the ten round lead Passion UA generated in the first half was ultimately too much for fnatic to overcome as Passion UA finally picked up a round to secure series point before then taking the map 13-7.
With the loss the legendary fnatic organization have been sent home from the Major after an unremarkable showing from the international squad.
