M80 beat NRG in NA derby to advance to StarLadder Budapest Major Stage 2
After a perfect debut at the StarLadder Budapest Major on November 24th, M80 and NRG met each other in one of the 2-0 pool matches of Stage 1 today. And, M80 played very well to overcome NRG and secure a spot in Stage 2.
NRG, on the other hand, will have two more opportunities to advance to Stage 2. They've beaten Ninjas in Pyjamas and FaZe on the first day, so there's no reason not to believe in Damian "daps" Steele's troops.
M80 had a very confident display today on both maps of the series. They've kept NRG humble on the T-side of Dust2, having conceded only two points on the defense.
NRG did put up a fight in the second half, but M80 managed to close out the map with back-to-back B splits.
M80 carried the momentum to Mirage, and once again steamrolled NRG in the first half, this time with a T-side masterclass. They secured another 10-2 advantage and closed out the map pretty fast, as a result of winning the second pistol.
Although everybody on M80 played really well, Michael "Swisher" Schmid led the charges with 32 kills. His performance didn't go unnoticed, as Alex "Mauisnake" Ellenberg and Chad "SPUNJ" Burchill praised his individual form throughout the series.
M80 will be feeling pretty happy with this win, especially because NRG defeated them the last time, in the grand finals of Fragadelphia Ultra Mega Jersey earlier this month.
We'll find out NRG's opponent in the 2-1 pool soon, once day two wraps up. This match will be played tomorrow.
As for M80, they return to the server only on Saturday, November 29th.
