Mythic win ESEA Advanced Season 55 via forfeit, claim spot at DreamHack Knockout Stockholm

LAG forfeited the grand finals after Mythic's win in the lower final.

ESEA Advanced Season 55 came to a head last night, although the grand final was scheduled for this evening.

Mythic completed a 2-1 reverse sweep of Fisher College last night in the playoffs to secure their spot in the grand finals which were then unfortunately forfeited by LAG.

The series began on Mythic's home map, Nuke. Fisher looked by far more comfortable on the map, though. The university team started with a dominant 10-2 CT side. That lead was insurmountable for Mythic, as Fisher yanked away their opponent's map pick.

Fisher chose Mirage as their pick, and it looked like they would transfer their momentum from map one to the second. A solid 8-4 lead for Fisher put Mythic on the ropes, but the stream team bounced back on their T side. Mythic took the momentum and lost just two rounds in the second half, taking the second map 13-10 and forcing a decider.

Inferno was the final map of the series, with both teams going back and forth in the first period. Mythic held a tight 7-5 lead at the end of the half before going to the T side. Another strong T side for Mythic sealed the victory as they won the deciding map 13-9.

Shortly after the lower final concluded, LAG communicated that they would forfeit the final due to scheduling conflicts with the DreamHack Knockout Stockholm ESL Pro League qualifier tournament combined with the fact they don't currently have a complete lineup.

The situation highlights an odd quirk with ESEA Advanced's prizepool, wherein if a team cannot attend the Knockout tournament or wants a cash prize, they are incentivized to forfeit the finals to earn $4,000.
