Are blowouts more common in CS2?

The data was analyzed on X.

A general consensus has come about that games in CS2 are often not as close as they were in CS:GO. @smartbackwards on X created a dataset to analyze the validity of these claims. After compiling the numbers, he suggested that the economy may require a few adjustments to enhance the competitiveness of games on average.

For his analysis, btrams defined a close game as as less than or equal to four rounds in CS:GO and less than or equal to three rounds (or overtime) in CS2. Using this threshold, he found are happening 25% more frequently in CS2 than they were in the last three and a half years of Global Offensive, with an 11% decrease in close games during that same timeframe.

The ratio of close games has returned to the level it was at in 2018, before the economic change that eliminated full resets.

While not a massive change, it will be interesting to see if Valve take this insight into consideration when making changes to the economy, especially as other pros, pundits, and community figures have asked for balance changes.
