Twistzz says MR12 needs to be re-evaluated before any map pool changes
The BLAST.tv Austin Major is now complete, bringing on a short but impactful season of roster changes. But Liquid's rifler-turned-IGL-turned-back-to-rifler believes that the current 12-round half format also needs a change.
Before any map pool changes happen, MR12 and the economy needs to be revaluated," Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken wrote on X as the Major concluded. "Increasing the money of the Galil or adding a 5th loss bonus around 3900 - 4000 [dollars] could help balance things out. My personal opinion is that MR15 was better and they found what really worked."
The switch from MR15 to MR12 with the launch of Counter-Strike 2 drew lots of attention from the community. While the shortened matches go by quicker, many pros and community members have argued that MR12 coupled with the current economy severely limit what teams can do in a half.
Twistzz argues that under MR15, the "tactical adaptions and depth" of Counter-Strike were much more visible, as teams were forced to utilize new strats and plays to avoid becoming predictable. "You could see the game grow and full playbooks play out," he added.
Because of there being less gun rounds, blowouts and one-sided games are becoming more common, and losing both pistols can be devastating. While a revert back to MR15 is very unlikely, since we're talking about Valve at the end of the day, economy changes will have to provide a source of relief.
