G2's next AWPer-coach duo?

sAw ahead of reported move to G2: "I think HEROIC will be able to have a bright future"

A disappointing Stage Two for HEROIC likely marks the end of sAw's time with the team.

In what is to be believed their final event before roster changes are made, HEROIC has been eliminated in the final round of Stage Two, after a 3-0 run in Stage One at the BLAST.tv Austin Major.

The current roster, cobbled together at the start of the year after Falcons, Liquid, and NiP picked apart the old group, flashed signs of greatness, most notably from Andrey "tN1R" Tatarinovich in his Major debut. But now the team must navigate two big reported departures in Alvaro "SunPayus" Garcia and coach Eetu "sAw" Saha, who are both reportedly headed to G2.

After the match, sAw spoke to Dust2.us about what went wrong in Stage Two, and the bright future of this HEROIC roster.

The entire interview is available below in text or video form. The questions and answers have been slightly edited for clarity.

Great first map versus Nemiga, but things fell apart. What went wrong?

On Mirage the T-side was quite good from the beginning, and then on the CT-side it was mostly about these force buys going back and forth. In the end they ended up on the better side of it. It's just unfortunate mistakes; I would say overall the approach in those rounds was decent. A couple of duels here and there that probably we could have taken more together. Small things in the end that end up costing us Mirage.

Then a slow start on Dust2. I don't know but could be due to how we lost Mirage. I think this whole stage it was small but crucial mistakes that end up costing us.

Perhaps a lack of momentum or the higher level of competition catching HEROIC off guard?

I don't think it was the competition. Overall I would say we played similar level teams. I think it's more about us and what kind of HEROIC we are able to show day-to-day. Our Stage Two [performance] was way weaker and it's a shame that during a tournament your level is dropping a bit. It can be hard to find consistency, but it's about showing up even if you're having a bad day.

It's no secret about the roster changes coming. Does this HEROIC roster still have a bright future?

I think so. We've taken crucial steps as individuals and as a team and I think they have what it takes to continue from there. I think with time and by showing off the things we've put in, I think they will be able to have a bright future.
