All eyes on Rio now for EG

Evil Geniuses bested by Brazilians at BLAST

The Major-bound North Americans faltered at the first hurdle, missing out on the Royal arena at the hands of João "felps" Vasconcellos' Fluxo.

Opening up on the Brazilian's map pick of Dust2, Fluxo took the pistol with ease, before shutting down the following force buy. EG would put themselves on the scoreboard off the back of young gun Jadan "HexT" Postma who found a 3k and secured the round on the force buy. Vinicius "vsm" Moreira and co. would storm out into a comfortable lead, going up 8-1 before EG could find an answer. The fumble of felps sticking a defuse in a 1v4 to give fluxo their eighth proved the wake-up call, with EG clawing their way back to 8-6, before Fluxo closed the half with a round win, sending them to their CT-side with a 9-6 lead.

Despite losing the pistol round again, EG would start off the second half in a more positive fashion as Sanzhar "neaLaN" Iskhakov's side claimed the force buy round, before closing the gap to a one-round deficit. Lucas "Lucaozy" Neves began to heat up, posting several multi-frag rounds to push Fluxo out to a 13-10 lead. A string of back-and-forth rounds ensued as Fluxo tried desperately to cling to their lead, however, a Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov double entry forced the Brazilians to save and tie the game up 14-14. CeRq found a 3k to give EG map point, however, a heroic Lucaozy round sent the two sides to overtime.

Fluxo continued their momentum following the heroics of Lucaozy, taking the first two rounds of overtime, before EG finally responded with a round of their own. Adriano "WOOD7" Cerato and vsm shut down CeRq in a 1v2 attempt by the Bulgarian to give the Brazilian's match point. EG would not go easy, putting the two teams on the brink of double overtime. It was not to be though, with Lucas "lux" Meneghini closing a 1v2 to send them onto EG's pick of Mirage with a 1-0 lead in the series.

Fluxo extended their pistol round record for the series to 3/3 on Mirage, before bolting out into an early 4-0 lead. EG found their footing much quicker than they had done in the opening half of Dust2, responding with four round wins of their own to tie the map up at 4-4. It was unclear where the momentum lay, as both teams traded rounds with CeRq closing out a 1v1 vs WOOD7 before putting in a nice attempt at a 1v4 in the following, falling in a 1v2. With both teams tied at 7-7 heading into the final round of the half, Fluxo claimed the 8-7 lead as EG fumbled a 2v1 and handed the round to WOOD7 on the A-site.

Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte came out in the second half determined to end Fluxo's pistol streak, storming into Palace and finding the entry, as Fluxo found merely a plant in the 2v4 that ensued. Timothy "autimatic" Ta cleaned up against an eco which resulted in another bomb plant for Fluxo, before the Brazilians forced their way into B and put themselves on the scoreboard in the following round. Executing into an A site eco stack at 10-10 left Fluxo stunned, however, they were spared complete embarrassment as CeRq was left with no time to defuse after winning the 1v1 duel. From this point, EG began to creep closer and closer to a third map, with comfortable round wins to send them to 13-11. Brehze closed out in the 1v1 to give EG a fourteenth before a clean sweep versus the eco gave the NA side map point. Fluxo stalling in a 4v4 gave Brehze the opportunity to find a 2k on the flank, securing the map and sending the teams to a Nuke decider.

Fluxo kicked off their T-side on Nuke with felps cleanly closing out a 1v2 to give the Brazilian team yet another pistol round for the series. Despite EG being on the favored side, a slow start on their defense resulted in another early Fluxo lead at 5-0. Eventually, the NA side posted a round, failing to follow up in the next as Fluxo kept the tempo high to claim a 6-1 lead. EG finally found their footing, stringing together four rounds straight and closing the gap to 7-5. Lucaozy and lux combined in the final round of the half to shut down EG, securing a 9-6 halftime lead for Fluxo.

I hope EG are saving their pistol strats for the Major, because Fluxo claimed yet another pistol round win to start the second half. EG conceded their eco to allow for a full buy in the following round, which resulted in an important victory on the lower site. With both sides at full strength in round 19, vsm clutched a 1v2 against the young rookie Hext to extend Fluxo's lead to 12-7. EG answered back to seemingly avoid a spiral, however, a spiral is exactly what occurred in the next round as a vsm double left EG scrambling versus the force, ultimately losing the round and the round that followed. With a broken economy, EG found themselves with minimal to work with, losing out the series on Nuke 16-8 as Fluxo move on to face the winner of 00Nation vs Vertex tomorrow.

With their campaign in the BLAST Fall Showdown finished, EG's next outing will be against IHC in the IEM Rio Challengers stage on October 31st.
