First ECL grand finalist set

Nouns capitalized on their opponents’ map one forfeit to seize a finals seat.

Three ECL contests last night saw two more teams exit the playoffs, leaving just four teams alive with Nouns already sitting comfy inside the grand finals.

The first of three matches kicked off on Iron Blood’s pick of Mirage, where they looked quite comfortable to start. After dropping pistol they would end up in a favorable 6-4 lead on the T-side before ATK got the read. After that, they sealed their defense to earn the final five rounds, winning the first half 9-6.

Following the close first half, ATK squeezed the life out of their opposition, chipping away at their defense before taking the first map 16-10. This is as close as the series would get, with a blowout soon to come on Overpass.

ATK ran wild on their map pick, winning the half 9-0 before their opponent struck back. A 2-4 split to end the half gave ATK a heavy 11-4 lead, and heading into the CT-side, they looked poised to close it out. They did just that with five straight to start the second half. The 16-4 win secured the series 2-0 for ATK, sending them further into the lower bracket.

The second series of the night was much closer, with both matches going all thirty rounds between EG Black and oNe + LOS. A five-round win streak headlined the superior offensive showing for EG Black, as they would win the first half battle 8-7. Heading into the side switch on their Inferno pick, their CT-side was unable to corral the oNe + LOS onslaught, and after giving up six of the first seven the first round was in jeopardy for EG Black.

They rallied at the tail end, but oNe + LOS pieced it together in the last moments to prevent the EG Black comeback. The 16-14 lead for oNe + LOS set them up to close the series on their pick of Mirage.

It was more of the oNe + LOS show when they moved to Mirage, with the Brazilians taking an early 5-2 lead. EG Black took the half back, headlined by four straight, to win the first fifteen 8-7. On the side switch, EG Black won four of five to set them up for a map two victory.

Down 8-12, oNe + LOS surged once again in the final moments to snatch another map from EG Black. Five-straight brought oNe + LOS within reach, and they were able to close it out on CT-side, 16-14. The win for oNe + LOS sets them up for a game against ATK in the lower bracket.

Things started easy for Nouns, as they were given a free 1-0 start after an MIBR forfeiture due to their ongoing match in the online BLAST NA Showdown. Once MIBR arrived, Nouns made sure to disallow any semblance of a comeback.

The sole map was MIBR’s choice of Inferno, and they initially looked solid on T-side. After a 4-0 start Nouns answered back with force, winning the final nine of eleven rounds to claim the first half 9-6 off a strong defensive hold. MIBR clapped back with five of their own after the side switch to take the lead at 11-9, but Nouns had the read by this point. Seven-straight rounds on the T-side took them to 16, securing the map 16-9 for Nouns and the quick 2-0.
