Liquid took the grudge match after a strong comeback

Liquid claim first NA derby of the season against Complexity

Liquid have continued to roll following their strong finish to the season at IEM Cologne 2022.

Liquid followed up on their impressive win against G2 earlier today by taking down their North American brethren Complexity in the Upper Bracket final of Group B. Both Liquid and Complexity won their opening games to set up their clash in the upper finals, with the map veto bringing both teams up all 51 floors to Vertigo.

The match started with Complexity winning their T-side pistol round after some good entries from Michael "Grim" Wince and Ricky "floppy" Kemery, setting the tone for the first rounds of the game. After putting away Liquid's hopes to win the second round with a force buy, Johnny "JT" Theodosiou had to pull a triple kill out of the hat to win a post-plant situation after Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski killed three players with only four Deagle shots. Complexity managed to string together six rounds in a row but Liquid answered by winning five out of the following six, cutting the lead to one. With the game on a 7-5 score favoring Complexity, the first half was looking very favorable for Grim and company. Round thirteen came and went with the Grim Reaper taking the heads of EliGE and Keith "NAF" Markovic to open up the A site and propelled his team to an eighth round win in the half, that ended 8-7 after Liquid managed to close the gap.

Starting off the second half, Liquid took their T-side pistol and would go on to win against Complexity's force buy. However, Complexity managed to carry over three pistols and their armor from the previous round, which proved pivotal as they would take Liquid by surprise and win the next round. After going up 13-9, Complexity suffered a round loss where Liquid only had one player die, making Complexity call for a timeout. The break seemed fruitful for the team, as they went on to win the next round. Despite this, the very next round Liquid saw themselves in a 2v4 disadvantage but Mareks "YEKINDAR" Galinskis and NAF managed to turn things around and win it, pulling the game to a 14-13 score in favor of Complexity. At this point you could sense the frustration in the Complexity lineup and almost felt the momentum shift in favor of Liquid. The team led by nitr0 went on to add three more, and ultimately won six rounds in a row. During this streak, NAF won a 1v3 post-plant situation that shattered Complexity’s morale, a blow from which they never recovered. Liquid went on to close the map 16-14.

Complexity will face the winner of the Natus Vincere vs. G2 in the consolidation final at 12:00PM.
