
regain win CROSSFIRE Season 5 over Club 333 to secure third overall title
After a flawless four 2-0 series wins in a row to reach the grand finals of CROSSFIRE Season 5, reigning champions regain faced Mexican-American mixed team Club 333 for the title. Though they lost their first map of the playoffs to an overtime comeback, they took the next two to secure the CROSSFIRE Season 5 title and the $3,000 prize that goes with it.
The regain core of Eric "Zucar" Zuccaro, Andrew "dvrk" Brunken, and Alexander "sasha" Burke have made the finals of all five CROSSFIRE Seasons. They got second place in seasons two and three while taking home first place in seasons one, four, and five.
The grand final began on regain's pick of Inferno. Though Club 333 won the pistol and conversion, they had a rough remainder of their T-side as they entered the second half down 4-8. regain took map point early, but Club 333 fought back with seven rounds in a row to reach overtime. Once there, Club 333 lost just one round as they took the opening map 16-13.
Map two was Club 333's pick of Dust2, and regain had a slow 1-4 start. However, they recovered well to secure a slight 7-5 lead. After losing the pistol, regain went flawless on their T-side to take the map 13-6, forcing a decider.
Map three was Mirage, and regain were in control from the beginning. They turned a pistol win into a 4-0 start and eventually a 9-3 first half. Learning their lesson from the first map, they kept their foot on the gas and quickly closed it out 13-3.
Newcomer Nazar "H0NeST" Stefinko was the standout performer for regain as he got 65 kills and ended the series with 118.5 ADR.
After pulling off the upset against Marsborne in their opening round, regain will face Voca tonight at 09:30PM in the semifinals of the BLAST Open Porto qualifier.
