freakazoid: "valens visited [Valve's] office, they're aware of how bad Subtick is right now"
In a recent stream Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir revealed interesting about the future of CS2. According to freakazoid, former Cloud9 coach and current Evil Geniuses Head of Gaming Soham "valens" Chowdhury reportedly visited Valve's headquarters recently where the developers of Counter-Strike 2 admitted that there are significant issues with the Subtick netcode architecture currently in place in game.
More interestingly perhaps, is that freakazoid also heard from valens that the developers are working on an update to improve the Subtick system and that a return to a "128-tick" server refresh rate is on the table.
The implication of Valve working on improving the Subtick system and admitting it is flawed is quite interesting as it has been a sore spot for players, pundits, and fans ever since the game came out in late 2023. In 2025 ThourCS2 asked CS2 pros what their biggest issues was with the game and many replied Subtick while casters like Chad "SPUNJ" Burchill have begged Valve to restore 128-tick servers.
It is unknown what the future holds for CS2's netcode architecture, however this news will likely be a relief to many to know that Valve is at least aware of a hot-button issue in the game.
