M80 advance to Stage 2 after winning NA derby
In a battle for advancement, two of the Major’s three NA teams faced off against one another. M80 were the favorites to win over NRG, and having done so, are now on their way to Stage 2 of IEM Cologne. Meanwhile, NRG’s fate will be determined in one more best-of-three.
M80 jumped to an early lead with a pistol win on Ancient. Only when Michael "Grim" Wince secured a 4K did NRG really enter the fray, but the half still ended 7-5 in favor of M80. Powered by an even more formidable T-side, the team in green would take their opponent’s map pick 13-6, with each player posting a rating above 1.00.
Inferno’s opening round would go to NRG, but neither team gained a real lead, that is, until Joshua "oSee" Ohm's 4K started a streak to make the halftime score 8-4. NRG were first to reach double digits, but M80 clawed back to steal the lead and take the series 2-0.
Joshua "JBa" Barutt led the lobby with 35 frags, continuing his breakout performance in Cologne.
