Wildcard felled by The MongolZ, face a decider match at PGL Bucharest 2026
Wildcard faced The MongolZ in a 2-1 match in the PGL Bucharest 2026 group stage, with playoff qualification on the line.
Wildcard will take some solace in giving their higher-ranked opposition a good fight, but they will look back at the first map and wonder what could have been if they had been able to close out the game.
Inferno was Wildcard's pick for the first map, and the North Americans started strong with an early 5-0 lead. The MongolZ answered with five of their own before Wildcard finished the half with two rounds on the bounce to hold a 7-5 halftime advantage. The Mongolians jumped ahead with a four-round burst and wouldn't relinquish the lead for the rest of the game, despite Wildcard's best efforts. The MongolZ needed the maximum number of rounds in regulation to win 13-11 on Inferno.
The MongolZ's map pick was next, where they could close out the series on Nuke. The MongolZ started with two streaks of three rounds on the T side, which were interrupted by Wildcard bursts of two rounds, giving the Asian side a 6-4 edge, which they would convert into an 8-4 lead. Two quick rounds gave The MongolZ a six-round advantage. Wildcard came back with four rounds in a row to close the deficit to 10-8, but that was as close as they would get. The Mongolians closed the map and series with aplomb, winning 13-8 on Nuke and securing the 2-0 sweep.
AWPer Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch and newest signing Anarbileg "cobrazera" Uuganbayar led the way for the MongolZ, tallying 35 and 37 frags, respectively.
Wildcard now face a do-or-die match against PARIVISION to qualify for the playoffs at PGL Bucharest 2026.
