FACEIT announces Season 8 launch date, soft ELO reset

FACEIT has released details for Season 8 of its matchmaking service, which will begin on April 22nd.

There will be a soft ELO reset when Season 8 launches, which will require all players to play ten placement matches to be given their rank.

FACEIT's soft ELO reset will affect all players, but it is those who are at the high end of level 10 that will experience the most change. The top of the playerbase will be compressed closer to the rest of level 10 players in an effort to keep play competitive.

The remainder of active players will experience smaller adjustments to their rank, meaning that they'll likely start close to or at their current rank.

Inactive players will also see a larger adjustment. In FACEIT's FAQ article, they stated, "Inactive players are adjusted more heavily so they don’t return overrated."

ELO will be hidden during the ten placement matches. While the system recalibrates rank, the first few matches may be more volatile than normal. It is possible to be placed in a higher level than before, if a player wins the majority of their placement matches.
