Liquid can't close v. The MongolZ; knocked out in group stage at BLAST Open Rotterdam 2026
Liquid have been eliminated from BLAST Open Rotterdam 2026 in the lower semifinals of Group B by The MongolZ.
Liquid came agonizingly close on the first map of Ancient, falling just short in overtime, thanks in no small part to a 1v3 clutch by Mongolian IGL Garidmagnai "bLitz" Byambasuren at 14-14. The first map loss would come back to bite them, as it was another 1v2 from bLitz that sealed their fate on the second map, as well.
The series began on Liquid's map pick of Ancient. The MongolZ took an early 5-1 advantage, then converted that to an 8-4 lead at halftime. Liquid clawed their way back in the second half, winning seven of the final eight rounds to clinch overtime. Liquid were derailed in OT by the aforementioned masterful clutch from bLitz, who repositioned perfectly to secure the final kill to deny Liquid a chance at map point.
The MongolZ looked like they could run away with Mirage, as they sprinted out to another 5-1 lead. Liquid were able to find more success in the first half of this map, as they came back to level the score at 6-6. It was a back-and-forth second half, with both sides taking slim leads before the Mongolians secured two match points at 12-10. The MongolZ's captain came up with the goods again, this time in a rapid-fire 1v2 on the A site to secure the win for his side.
Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski put up a match-high 52 frags, but it wasn't enough for Liquid. The MongolZ had a trio of stars: Ayush "mzinho" Batbold, Anarbileg "cobrazera" Uuganbayar, and Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch, each posting 45, 42, and 42 frags, respectively.
