NRG eliminated from BLAST Open Spring after competitive loss to FURIA
After a strong victory over B8 kept them alive, NRG lost to FURIA 1-2. They are now out of BLAST Open Spring, but the event has shown the team has real potential to do damage in the future. After taking their pick, NRG were outclassed and outgunned on the next two maps.
The series began on NRG's pick of Mirage. Though they started well with the pistol and conversions, NRG couldn't break through FURIA's defense and ended the first half down 4-8. After winning the second pistol, they put up a great CT-side. FURIA were unable to get consecutive rounds as NRG came back to take their pick 13-10.
Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek was fantastic throughout, ending the map with 22 kills and 105.7 ADR.
FURIA's pick of Nuke started with another NRG pistol win, but quickly turned far less competitive. Though NRG found several man advantages, they were consistently outplayed by FURIA as the Brazilians took a 10-2 lead on their T-side. FURIA's pistol win all but sealed the victory, and they quickly closed the map 13-2.
Dust2 was the decider, and it was chaotic. FURIA won the pistol, but a 1v3 clutch from Josh "oSee" Ohm helped NRG respond quickly with four rounds in a row. FURIA had control for the rest of the half, but still only got a slight 7-5 lead. Despite some close situations, NRG were unable to keep up with FURIA's T-side, eventually letting the Brazilians take the decider map 13-7.
Despite solid performances on the first two maps, newcomer Michael "Grim" Wince ended Dust2 with only four kills and 18 deaths.
NRG's next event will be PGL Bucharest, running from April 4th to April 11th.
