Liquid sign up for two more LANs in last-ditch attempt to qualify for IEM Cologne Major
Liquid have signed up for Roman Imperium Cup VI and DraculaN Season 6 to try to save their season after a poor showing at ESL Pro League Season 23. Liquid's Major qualification chances went from 28% to 13% after their loss and elimination at the hands of 3DMAX today, according to a post from Mischief on X.
Mischief later noted that Liquid's qualification likelihood raised to 36% after the squad signed up for Roman Imperium Cup and DraculaN.
While signing up for these two smaller LANs, along with the WINAMAX event they were already scheduled to attend, helps Liquid's case, their hopes may still hinge on BLAST Open Rotterdam. The BLAST event will feature by far the strongest competition out of Liquid's four remaining events pre-IEM Cologne invites, meaning that the Dutch event will have the most VRS points on offer.
The organization hasn't confirmed that they have signed up for either Roman Imperium Cup or DraculaN, but they are listed on the DraculaN website as the team that secured the final spot at the Romanian event. Signing up for these events in the first place illustrates the dire straits that Liquid are currently in after their EPL elimination.
Should Liquid miss out on IEM Cologne 2026, it would be just the second Major the org has missed since PGL Krakow 2017, after they failed to qualify for CS2's first Major at PGL Copenhagen 2024.
