100 Thieves get revenge against NIP at Roman Imperium Cup V
In their LAN debut today at Roman Imperium Cup V in Portugal, 100 Thieves lost their opening best-of-one match to Group D rivals NIP. After defeating BESTIA 2-0 to avoid elimination, 100 Thieves again faced NIP, this time in a best-of-three.
Their initial meeting was heavily one-sided, with their opponents going 11-1 on the CT side of Nuke. 100 Thieves would muster the second half pistol, but fail to take advantage of a rare economic advantage in the rounds following.
Facing elimination in their next series, 100 Thieves saw Alex "poiii" Nyholm Sundgren rebound from a 0.45-rated performance against NIP to a 1.42 rating against BESTIA. Despite it being their opponents’ map pick, Dust2 was even more favorable to 100 Thieves than Inferno, with poiii leading his team to a 9-3 half and subsequent victory.
In their second go against NIP, Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz would secure 10 frags with the AWP, and 100Thieves’ CT side would again prevail on Dust2. However, a rematch on Nuke was up next.
NIP would win 4 straight rounds before a multi-kill from dev1ce put 100 Thieves on the board. By halftime his team was down 4-8, but they’d at least doubled their score from the previous stomping. The second half was close, but 100 Thieves struggled to stop Artem "r1nkle" Moroz, who led NIP to map three with a 22-8 stat line and 1.85 rating.
In the decider, dev1ce and r1nkle proceeded to duel on the AWPs, with NIP gaining a narrow two-round lead by halftime. Ancient's second pistol round saw a knife kill from NIP and a miraculously close defuse from Håvard "rain" Nygaard, giving 100 Thieves the chance to tie the game at 7-7.
The back-and-forth continued through round 22, at which point both teams were again even at 11-11. 100 Thieves were first to strike match point, but NIP would push them to overtime. A 3K from André "Ag1l" Gil would once more put 100 Thieves just a short round away from enacting their revenge, and they made good on that golden opportunity.
