Cxzi is flourishing as an IGL

Cxzi: "Being able to go close M80 here we can say we are in the top three of NA"

Cxzi and Marsborne fell in the semifinal at DreamHack Atlanta.

Dust2.us' Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore caught up with Danny "Cxzi" Strzelczyk of Marsborne after his team's exit from DreamHack Knockout Atlanta at the hands of M80.

Cxzi spoke about Marsborne's growth in NA, their chances in the Dust2.us Eagle Masters Series, and his opinion on the Knockout BYOC event.

You may find the full interview in video format below, with select excerpts in text form underneath that. All questions and answers have been slightly edited for length and clarity.

Really close game there, you struck the first blow. Why do you think you ran out of momentum in map 3?

WolfY and I ran out of gas. chop and viz both stepped up to help us out in the game. We just ran out of gas and couldn't get anything going and we lost a couple stupid rounds.

It's a pretty small LAN, with only 14 teams. You played four matches, with most of them against smaller teams. What are your main takeaways from this event?

Being able to go close v. NRG in the Revival Cup and M80 here, it's good for us. We can say, not counting Passion UA, that we are in the top three of NA. We're going to take this and keep on improving for that second spot.

You missed out on the EPL spot, but you're still gaining VRS points here and in other competitions. Are you happy with the team since you joined as IGL?

Yeah, we had that weird thing with ECL Cup 3 because of the roster thing. We didn't practice for that time, last week was our first week back into practice so we're starting where we left off.

When you get back home from this event, you're going to be playing in the grand finals of the Dust2.us Eagle Masters Series #4. Right now, it's either going to be SportsBetExpert, Voca, or Take Flyte in the finals.

Who do you have a good matchup against? Do you think all of those teams are beatable?

I think we'll win against any of those teams. We've beaten them all consistently, so I'm not too worried about it.

Taking into consideration your results here and online, do you think you have what it takes to win Frag Jersey?

Yeah, I think all these games are pretty close, all the NA teams play each other close so whoever shows up better can win the event. I don't think there are many European teams, so it would be great if it were an NA showdown.

Now that you've joined Marsborne, WolfY is looking great, you're playing great as an IGL. How are you feeling about your career now that you've had success in your new team?

I feel good. The whole thing with Complexity was that something needed to change in the team. I went from doing my own thing to lurking and playing different spots; it wasn't like we were in EU for six months of the year. We were in NA a lot of the time, so we were just falling behind. With Marsborne, I've stolen stuff from so many different teams. I like being able to choose bits and pieces that I like and incorporate them into our game.

It's quite expensive for some of these teams to come to this event. Do you think this is something ESL should do again or should they go back to the drawing board?

The idea of having a Pro League spot for this kind of thing is cool, it would be better if they merged with Frag or something like that, so teams only have to cover travel and hotels. Bringing all your stuff or renting PCs, that's really hard for a lot of teams.

Also, there's this event in Atlanta and then another one in Stockholm; you could region-lock it. The one in Europe is for EU, and the one here is for the Americas, and keep it separate. BIG, for example, is able to afford to come here, and if someone needs a Pro League spot, they can keep doing that.
