siuhy: "EliGE is yet to fully and comfortably get into our system"
Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek spoke to HLTV after Liquid's demoralizing elimination to SAW in the PGL Masters Bucharest quarterfinals today, to share his thoughts on what went wrong on maps two and three of the series, and how Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski is adapting to the team.
Liquid dominated SAW on Ancient, the first map of the series, but the wheels fell off the wagon on the remainder of the series.
"Coming into Train it was just a complete reverse," siuhy said.
"It’s no lie that we are still yet to fully go in-depth in practice with EliGE, so it’s going to show on some maps, and throughout this tournament we’ve had some maps where it was just a struggle to play, and we just got completely destroyed — that happened today on Train."
The Polish IGL said he'll review Inferno to understand exactly what went wrong, as he felt that the team were capable of winning the map. As of now, he thinks that the team played "a little bit unorthodox Counter-Strike on T side."
In his next answer, siuhy rebuked that the team lost because of a psychological problem. For him, it's more to do with the lack of quality practice, as they've been jumping from one tournament to another.
It’s honestly as simple as that we’ve been going from tournament to tournament with only a couple of days of practice with EliGE.
Shoutout to him because he’s also yet to fully and comfortably get into our system, and also tell us about how he views things, and how he likes certain things. That is something that we are yet to get into. We’ve started working on it, obviously, throughout the couple of days that we had, but it was never easy.
Liquid don't have any event on their calendar until the StarLadder Budapest Major Stage 2, which kicks off only on November 29th, so they'll have plenty of time to practice EliGE on the team, according to siuhy.
"I think that is going to be the time that we’re going to use for EliGE to get into our system and work on our map pool, because as we could see during this tournament, it was not the greatest," he said.
In his final answer to Teodor "Tedd" Borisov, siuhy mentioned that they're lacking a "little bit of a meta touch" to their playbook on certain maps. And, once again, mentioned that they have work to do with EliGE.
There are some maps that we feel really confident on, there are some maps that we had to put aside for now, so we’re going to have to catch up with the playbook on those maps. We’re going to have to work with Jon, like I said, on certain things.
Overall, just finding consistency on all of the maps, building all of the maps to a certain level where we will feel comfortable in the vetoes, to pick them and to play them as a third map. Or even if an opponent wants to punish us by picking it. That’s going to be our main focus. We have a good amount of time for that, and yeah — I’m going to stay positive throughout that period.
With the loss to SAW, Liquid finished 5th-8th at PGL Masters Bucharest, thus losing their streak of finishing fourth or higher.
Before the Romanian LAN, Liquid had better results at FISSURE Playground 2, Birch Cup, and CS Asia Championships. EliGE replaced Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken after FISSURE.
