Media: 100 Thieves signs rain
North American organization 100 Thieves is returning to Counter-Strike esports with a team spearheaded by Håvard "rain" Nygaard, according to a report by our sister website Dust2.dk.
rain played his last matches for FaZe at ESL Pro League Season 22 earlier this month, and has been waiting for offers on the bench ever since.
According to Dust2.dk, rain, and 100 Thieves already signed the contract. It's unclear, however, who will be the other four players on the roster.
Prominent insider and Spirit scout Aleksei "OverDrive" Birukov wrote on his Telegram that 100 Thieves' priority is to sign a core from GamerLegion, and that rain will play for 100 Thieves as long as the NA organization signs a "strong core."
It's unknown which GamerLegion players 100 Thieves is targeting for now, but the organization has some possibilities, as rain said in his farewell letter for FaZe that he's open to becoming an IGL. Should that be the case, 100 Thieves would not try to sign GamerLegion's IGL Erik "ztr" Gustafsson.
100 Thieves' past in CS
100 Thieves has been away from Counter-Strike since October 2020, when it parted ways with the Australian roster headlined by Justin "jks" Savage, citing the logistical problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty of the CS:GO scene at the time. That roster peaked at No. 5 in the HLTV world rankings in December 2019.
The NA org also had an all-Brazilian roster between December 2017 and January 2018, but Lincoln "fnx" Lau and co. were released shortly due to "roster complications and visa issues."
Since 2020, 100 Thieves hinted at a return to CS at least a couple of times, with the last being in 2024.
