M80 and NRG on brink of elimination after 0-2 starts at EPL Season 22
All eyers are focused on next week's Major invites, so hopefully most NA fans are blissfully unaware of the region's poor start at ESL Pro League Season 22.
M80 and NRG are both sitting at 0-2 heading into Round 3 of the opening Swiss stage, requiring three straight wins if either wants to somehow advance to the next stage.
M80 kicked off their group stage with a 1-2 loss to ENCE, surrendering a huge 9-3 lead to the ENCE T-side on both Dust2 and Mirage, though M80 did manage to win their map pick of Mirage. Their Dust2 struggles continued with a 13-4 rout at the hand of HEROIC, who then handled M80 on Overpass 13-9 on the shoulders of rising star Simon "yxngstxr" Boije.

NRG fared no better. The team lost their opener to GamerLegion, falling on Train 13-11 and on Overpass 13-9. While they showed signs of life against Legacy with a 13-6 win on Mirage, NRG let the series slip away with a 13-8 loss on Nuke and a brutal 13-5 loss on Dust2.

We love our NA teams but apparently they don't love our namesake, going 0-3 on Dust2 across the first two rounds of the group stage. But it gets worse. NRG's chances of starting in Stage Two of the Major are evaporating, as the opening group stage of Pro League will count toward the VRS rankings/Major invites that go live next week.
The next matches for both teams are must-win, and thankfully they haven't drawn each other yet. Tomorrow, NRG will take on Brazilian side Fluxo while M80 will face the Australians on Rooster.
