Liquid defeat HEROIC, survive in FISSURE Playground 2
Liquid remain alive to fight tomorrow in FISSURE Playground 2 as they knocked HEROIC out of the tournament on September 15th, in a 0-2 match of the Swiss group stage.
This was a crucial win for Liquid, as they avoided finishing last place in Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken's final tournament with the team, plus earned 90 Valve Regional Standings (VRS) points. They are now 24th on the VRS and remain out of the qualification zone for the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025.
It was a tough series for Liquid because of multiple technical issues, but they won after three maps. According to Guy "NertZ" Iluz, they changed two or three PCs throughout the series, and the game was freezing in the final map.
Liquid won Ancient off the back of a very good CT-side (9-3) in the first half. Keith "NAF" Markovic (1.50 rating) and Twistzz (1.44 rating) were the ones who found more crucial kills for Liquid in the map.
HEROIC forced the decider with a convincing win on Dust2, where they won 9 rounds as Terrorists in the first half, and kept the game in control in the rest of the map.
Even though Liquid secured another 9-3 advantage after their CT-side in the first half of Mirage, the game got really scary in the second half as HEROIC won six out of the first seven rounds. Still, Liquid pulled through and secured the series.
FISSURE Playground 2 is Liquid's final tier-one LAN before the StarLadder Budapest Major invite cutoff next month, so every victory counts a lot toward making the Major via the Europe VRS.
