Breaking: NRG sign Sonic
NRG have unveiled the signing of Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek this Thursday, September 4th, confirming an earlier report by the self-proclaimed esports insider Vladislav Gromov.
The former Wildcard player will replace Carson "nosraC" O'Reilly effective immediately.
The move sees nosraC depart NRG less than two months after joining the organization alongside Zechrie "XotiC" Elshani. nosraC averaged a 0.98 HLTV rating during his time with NRG, and attended a few tournaments, most notably Fragadelphia 19 and the online group stage of BLAST Bounty Season 2.
Sonic, on the other hand, is averaging a 1.07 rating throughout the year and has played in plenty of tier-one events. All in all, the South African definitely has way more experience than nosraC at the highest level.
Dust2.us has reported that Sonic would exit Wildcard after the BLAST.tv Austin Major to make space for the arrival of Jaxon "Peeping" Cornwell, but Wildcard asked him to stay so they could retain the core and their respective Valve Regional Standings (VRS) points.
Now that Sonic has finally parted ways with Wildcard, the organization could announce their new fifth in any moment. According to Gromov, the player in question will be the Polish rifler Maciej "F1KU" Miklas.
Wildcard will also most likely reinstate Love "phzy" Smidebran to the team, as they recalled him from 9INE yesterday. Slotting phzy back in the team would allow Wildcard to retain their VRS points from before the Major.
Meanwhile, Sonic will debut for NRG at Fragville 2025 this Friday, September 5th.
