Media: NRG target Sonic to replace nosraC
According to an X post by self-proclaimed esports insider Vladislav Gromov, NRG are set to replace Carson "nosraC" O'Reilly with current Wildcard player Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek. The report by Gromov comes two after he previously suggested Sonic is set to be replaced on the Houston-based team by Polish rifler Maciej "F1KU" Miklas.
Should the move come to fruition, it would see nosraC ousted at NRG less than two months after joining the NA team alongside Zack "XotiC" Elshani in a shock move that saw NRG pivot away from the experienced duo of Jadan "HexT" Postma and Josh "oSee" Ohm.
The decision to replace nosraC with Sonic could be influenced by a desire to increase the firepower within NRG's rifling core, something Sonic could accomplish with his 1.08 rating over 113 maps in 2025 compared to nosraC's 1.01 rating this year over 138 maps. Sonic is also a more experienced player overall, boasting multiple Major and tier-one LAN appearances during his time under teams like Wildcard, Cloud9, and ATK.
Sonic's rumored move to NRG comes amidst long-standing rumors that the South African player has had one foot out the door at Wildcard for sometime. Dust2.us reported Sonic was set to be replaced by Jaxon "Peeping" Cornwell post-BLAST.tv Austin Major, however the team's desire to replace him has been complicated by a messy shuffle that has seen multiple players on the chopping block before suddenly returning due to VRS concerns and a seeming lack of direction regarding the future of the project.
Should Sonic replace nosraC, NRG would consist of:
-
Jeorge "Jeorge" Endicott -
Nick "nitr0" Cannella -
Alexander "br0" Bro -
Zack "XotiC" Elshani -
Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek -
Damian "daps" Steele (Coach) -
Josh "oSee" Ohm (Inactive) -
Carson "nosraC" O'Reilly (Inactive)
Should NRG aim to change their roster, they would likely want to do it before heading to Fragadelphia Fragville on September 5th. This gives NRG and Wildcard a short runway to complete their respective moves so we may see their old rosters in one final last dance.
