Spirit bounce Liquid from BLAST Open London
Liquid faced a monumental task in their lower semifinal match, as they met Spirit. The Russian side was beaten by FURIA in their previous match to fall to the loser's bracket.
Typically, it's Danil 'donk' Kryshkovets that makes teams quiver, but today he was joined by sniper Dmitry 'sh1ro' Sokolov at the top of the leaderboard. The duo sealed Liquid's fate, sending them packing in the online portion of BLAST London.
Liquid elected to start the series on Dust2, while Spirit started on the CT side. Spirit jumped ahead early, taking a 6-2 lead. Liquid fought back, leveling the score at 6-6 before taking a 10-6 to start their own defensive half. Liquid went up 12-8, one round away from winning the first map, when Spirit battled back with four consecutive round wins to force overtime. The extra period was all Spirit, as they won four more rounds in a row to steal Liquid's pick 16-12.
Spirit took that momentum from the first map and translated it to a 5-1 lead on the T side of Mirage. Liquid battled back to reduce the lead to two rounds, trailing 7-5 at halftime. Despite losing the pistol round in both halves, Spirit were firmly in control of the map, taking a 10-6 lead and eventually winning the map and eliminating Liquid with a 13-7 triumph.
Spirit will now face G2 for a spot at the BLAST London Finals.
