ESL Challenger League S50 Cup 1 Day 6 recap: NRG and M80 advance to Upper Bracket Finals

Six teams are left standing in the cup.

Last night the first ESL Challenger League Season 50 Cup was back in action after an eleven day hiatus. With that, we saw the upper bracket semifinals and round four of the lower bracket played out, with NRG and M80 claiming spots in the Upper Bracket Finals while LAG and ASPYRE were eliminated.

Starting with the upper bracket, NRG claimed a fairly comprehensive 2-0 win over BLUEJAYS, winning Dust 13-4 and Mirage 13-1. However, this result was marred by a DDOS direct at BLUEJAYS as both Matthew "Cryptic" Whitmore and Tommy "Axed" Ryan faced constant connection problems in the series.

The other Bo3 series was far more interesting and competitive as InControl shocked by opening up the series with a 13-11 win on Mirage thanks to a massive 1.89 rating performance from David "Beast" Zucker. While the next two were relatively one-sided wins for M80, this was still a great showing for InControl as they continue to impress with their deep run in ECL during this cup.

Over in the other bracket, LAG unfortunately forfeited their series against BOSS due to the roster lock preventing them from using Jonathan "djay" Dallal.

Meanwhile, ASPYRE played a highly-competitive series against Marsborne, kicking things off by securing Ancient 13-5 against the team. The second map ended up being an incredibly close 16-14 win for Marsborne on Train before Marsborne closed out the series with a 13-6 win on Inferno.

While ASPYRE lost the series they can be proud of their performance especially as they used Eric "spud" Wickenhauser as a stand-in.
