Complexity's impressive run before the Major feels like a distant memory

JT: "I think mithR could have done even more if he continued with us"

The team's in-game leader gave some candid answers on what's going on.

Complexity's run at BLAST Bounty Season 2 came to an unceremonious end against HEROIC, choking a series lead as well as an early lead on map three, Overpass.

Following the loss to a team fielding an academy AWPer as a stand-in, Complexity's in-game leader Johnny "JT" Theodosiou spoke to the desk about what went wrong in the series, what's been wrong with Complexity since their standout PGL Bucharest showing, and gave an uninspiring answer on the team's full-time coach vacancy.

Here's the full exchange between the desk at BLAST Bounty Season 2 and JT after the Complexity loss. Some questions and answers have been edited slightly for clarity.

That one was painful to watch. What happened in that second half?

I think it's just a lot of individual mistakes from the team. We were struggling a lot with just getting to the actual end goals of the rounds, like people just getting picked off. Then we were struggling to picture exactly what the CTs were doing. A lot of individual things went wrong.

If you can bring us back to Ancient, you go down 8-1 and struggle to get back into it, but then it feels like on the T-side you were still going. Did it feel like you couldn't just call your way outside of the CT-side?

We didn't get off to a good start on the T-side, on Ancient we always have a really bad CT-side, and when we got to the T-side we didn't win any of the early rounds so we were just money broken from the start.

How do you bounce back from a loss like that?

There's only so much you can do. We just look at what we did good, because I always think it's important to see what was going right for us. We were doing really well on the CT-side of Overpass. But on the T-side we'll need to look at what exactly went wrong, because usually we have quite a good T-side on the map and today it just wasn't showing. And just in general across all the maps we have to look at why we're losing almost every entry duel. It felt like we were on the backfoot in almost every round we were playing. It's really hard for us to play as a team like that.

What do you think has changed from Bucharest, where you had a great run to get top 4, to experiencing this loss at the hands of a HEROIC team playing with a stand-in AWPer? You guys were a lot better than this four months ago. How do you turn this around?

The simple answer is that in Bucharest and Melbourne our plays were working. Our early round plays and openers were really working for us so we were always in a good spot to win those games. And now our openers just haven't been working as well. We're struggling to get into rounds. I don't know, it's hard. Some of these rounds we're in the lead we're a little bit too chaotic on our sides and we throw rounds that we should win away.

Looking toward the future, you've been through coaching changes, had Torbjørn "mithR" Nyborg in for a time. Do you know what the plan is there?

Honestly I don't know what's going to happen. On the topic of mithR, I did really enjoy playing with him, I think he's a great coach. He wasn't here very long, but he helped us and we all learned a lot from that. Without a permanent coach it's hard for someone to bring in the style they want. I think mithR could have done even more if he continued with us. In terms of if we'll have a coach soon, I'm not sure, I don't really know, and I can't really give any more information on that.
