phzy: "It just feels like it all fell apart"
Wildcard have capped off an awful week for the NA scene at the BLAST.tv Austin Major with a 2-0 loss to Legacy. With Wildcard exiting the tournament, no NA teams will advance from Stage One to Stage Two, a significant failure at NA's first Major in seven years.
Following this heartbreaking loss, Wildcard's Love "phzy" Smidebrant spoke to Dust2.us' Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore about the loss, why things went so wrong, and what comes next for the team amidst rumors of roster changes.
**What do you think went so wrong today against Legacy, especially on Nuke? **
I don't know to be honest. We've been changing a bit of stuff on Nuke T-side and it hasn't been working at all this tournament. Not now, and not yesterday against BetBoom either. So I'm not entirely sure it just feels like it all fell apart.
You exit Austin with no Bo3 wins. Did something dramatic change in the team recently or how else can you explain why the team fell flat in the Bo3s?
I'm not sure to be honest. If I knew and if we knew now or even before we probably would've fixed it. I'm not sure, I'm going to have to look back at the games.
With this result we have no NA teams advancing from Stage One to Stage Two. Do you think this accurately reflects where the NA scene is it at now?
I don't think so, us and NRG could've made it. NRG did play close versus Lynn Vision at least on Dust2 from what I saw. I think honestly it was my expectation and goal to at least make it to Stage Two this tournament so we're really disappointed. I don't think [this result] is that accurate and I think we should've made it through but we didn't play to our level at all.
There have been rumors swirling about roster changes coming to Wildcard. Do you have anything to say about those?
No, we've only seen the rumors like everyone has. Nothing we pay much attention to, I mean we were here to play our best game and not let any of that affect us which I don't think it did. I think we just didn't show up.
