Wildcard draws new opening opponent at Austin Major due to BESTIA/Legacy swap
As a result of Legacy replacing BESTIA at the BLAST.tv Austin Major, Wildcard has drawn a new opponent in round one of Stage 1: Metizport.
Initially, Wildcard was slated to take on Brazilian side Fluxo in the first round, through seeding determined by the global Valve Regional Standings. But with Legacy taking BESTIA's place due to the latter's issues with acquiring player visas, the new seeding has placed Wildcard's international roster against the all-Swedish team of Metizport.
This change in schedule means that two brothers will face off in the first round of the Major, as Wildcard's Tim "susp" Ångström takes on Metizport's Adam "adamb" Ångström.
A couple of other first round matchups have changed as well. Lynn Vision, who qualified through the Chinese qualifier, will be the ones to take on newly added Legacy. FlyQuest, who was originally supposed to play BESTIA, will instead play Fluxo. The remaining first round matches, including Complexity v. OG and NRG v. TYLOO, will remain the same.
While it's not impossible, it appears unlikely that BESTIA will be able to regain their spot in the Major. BESTIA's CEO Alejandro "Papo MC" Lococo said today that Luciano "luchov" Herrera and Martín "tomaszin" Corna do in fact have their visas. This follows a statement from BLAST that says the players only have "visa appointments" and alleges that BESTIA "began the visa process incorrectly and without proper legal support."
Metizport, featuring a couple of long-time NiP mainstays in Nicolas "Plopski" Gonzalez and Hampus "hampus" Poser, are currently ranked 59th in Valve's global rankings.
