Classic Offensive dev: "Our only mistake was to be passionate about Counter-Strike"
ZooL, a developer who spent over eight years working on Classic Offensive, has spoken in the aftermath of the mod's cancellation on May 7th.
In a reply to CS2 content creator WarOwl, ZooL shared his thoughts on the demise of Classic Offensive.
I doubt we will make the same mistake twice, I hope this project can at least serve as a lesson.
We now live in an age where there's a lot of easy to use and open engines where you can make your own original games.
Our only mistake was to be passionate about Counter-Strike.
Classic Offensive aimed to bring elements of the first Counter-Strike games to CS:GO, and they saw Valve veto the project after approving it years ago. The mod was ready to be released in March, but the development team received a "Cease and Desist" notification from Valve hours before the launch.
Understandably so, Valve now finds themselves under much criticism as there were a lot of people looking forward to playing Classic Offensive.
There are dozens of messages criticizing Valve's decision in the announcement of the Mission Possible CS2 update, for example. But it's unclear whether Valve will take a U-turn and allow Classic Offensive to be released.
