They're losing a precious revenue stream by not playing at the Majors

OverDrive: "Astralis is on the verge of bankruptcy"

The Russian also said Astralis will either shut down or sell the brand after missing the Major.

Alexey "OverDrive" Birukov, a popular CS2 insider and scout for Spirit, said on his Telegram that Astralis are in a dire financial situation. The Danish organization failed to qualify for the BLAST.tv Austin Major on April 17th, and won't receive sticker money once again.

"Astralis is on the verge of bankruptcy," OverDrive wrote. "There are two options: either the organization closes or is sold to new owners!"

There's no way to truly find out how Astralis' finances are at the moment, as they've gone private in 2023 after delisting from Nasdaq First North Growth Market Denmark.

But, given that Majors provide significant revenue for organizations and that they missed their fifth Major in a row, what OverDrive said may as well be true. HLTV's Editor-in-Chief Milan "Striker" Švejda reported in 2024 that Astralis missed out on making $3-4 million as a result of not having stickers for three Majors in a row.

Astralis invests a lot of money on Counter-Strike esports, having reportedly spent $2 million alone on buying Martin "stavn" Lund and Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard from HEROIC in 2024, according to Striker.

What may be keeping Astralis afloat is the fact that they sold their LEC (League of Legends EMEA Championship) spot to AK-Game SAS for $23 million in 2023. However, that money won't last forever.
