Gaimin Gladiators sign ChocoCheck; add cynic

The infamous lineup has found a new home for ECL Season 40 and beyond.

Gaimin Gladiators have signed ChocoCheck, rounding out the roster with David "cynic" Polster in place of Zack "XotiC" Elshani. The news follows Dust2.us' report on February 24th that suggested the signing was imminent.

The controversial pickup of the ChocoCheck lineup marks the first time the squad has received organizational support following their departure from Rebirth in March 2021, although, Carson "nosraC" O'Reilly is the only remaining player from that iteration of the team.

The choice of lineup for the Canadian organization is somewhat contentious as despite the team consisting of some of the most promising young players in the NA scene, ChocoCheck are more well known for their scandals and an indifferent attitude towards the North American semi-professional scene.

ChocoCheck were infamous for not practicing, not taking the game too seriously, or caring about their reputation, things that Anthony "CLASIA" Kearney admitted to Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore in an interview at Fragadelphia 16: Chicago.

While all members of this lineup have some degree of controversy attached to their name, the team's most senior member, nosraC, has the most marks against him in the scene. He previously faced a ban from ESIC for failing to disclose knowledge of former teammates Sebastian "retchy" Tropiano and Kevin "4pack" Przypasniak's conspiracy to commit matchfixing. nosraC also recently came off of a three month ban from FPL for toxicity in the hub.

The team is most known outside of the niche North American fanbase for forfeiting the ESEA Premier Season 39 grand finals against Extra Salt due to an almost absurd confluence of circumstances that resulted in the team not being able to field a complete roster.

Whether the team will take this opportunity to turn over a new leaf or continue their usual antics is yet to be seen, but for a scene that struggles with sponsorship hopefully the players understand the gravity of making a good impression.

Dust2.us reached out to Gaimin Gladiator's President, Nick Cvillo, regarding the unconventional signing. He told the site:

I believe that the future of NA CS is largely dependent on these younger players. Just because they may have made poor decisions in the past does not mean that they cannot turn the page and start fresh. Even with their reputation, I believe they can develop into the players NA requires with opportunities, guidance, and maturity. There is no denying their ability as individuals or as a team and we are willing to support what we believe can bloom into something better for them.

Gaimin Gladiators are:

  • Carson "nosraC" O'Reilly

  • Dominick "JazzPimp" Dimpfel

  • Anthony "CLASIA" Kearney

  • Jeorge "jeorgesnorts" Endicott

  • David "cynic" Polster

Gaimin Gladiators will make their debut at Fragadelphia 16 on March 5th due to being a high seed team. They are slotted into Group D alongside Bad News Bears.
