CLG Red win second ESEA Winter Women's Cash Cup

CLG Red bested Little Bocks once again to become back-to-back champions.

The second installment of the ESEA Winter Women's Cash Cup has concluded with CLG Red repeating their victory over Little Bocks to take home the lion's share of the $1,000 prizepool.

There were only two matchups in the first round of the tournament, seeing sage against the unclean deconstruct Infamous Girls 16-2 on Dust2 whilst OSADIA put up limited resistance against Sweetie Goji as they were taken down 16-5 on Inferno.

Moving into round two, CLG Red demolished sage against the unclean in a 16-0 win on Vertigo while Little Bocks narrowly defeated Sweetie Goji 16-14 on Vertigo. Meanwhile, Hot Flash bested Tourmaline 16-8 on Overpass while Slay showed no mercy as they crushed sigma 16-2 on Overpass.

The first semifinal of the event pitted Little Bocks against Hot Flash in an extended three-map series. Starting on Nuke, Hot Flash battled Little Bocks through 42 rounds before taking the map 22-20 in double overtime. Moving onto Overpass, after a close first map this one was rather one-side as Little Bocks clinched it 16-6 thanks in part to a strong T-side showing by Megan "Kionetta" Kirkland.

The final map of the semifinal took the two teams to Inferno where Little Bocks were able to run away with the first half, accruing an 11-4 score before the squads switched sides. Trading blows, Hot Flash managed to steal seven rounds off of their foes, but the initial first-half deficit proved too much to overcome, as Kionetta's girls managed to secure the final rounds they needed to take a 16-11 victory on map three.

On the other side of the bracket, CLG Red faced off against Slay on Dust2, with the squad winning their CT-side 10-5 before taking the map 16-8.

The second map played out much like the first, with CLG Red looking poised to meet Little Bocks in the final. A dominant T-side allowed CLG Red to overrun their competition and win Mirage 16-5 and make their way into the finals.

The first map of the grand final sent the two sides to Little Bocks' pick of Overpass where a stellar defensive performance from Emma "Emy" Choe helped CLG Red quickly go 5-2 up to start the final firmly in the driver's seat. Little Bocks did interrupt CLG Red's flow at points, but Mounira "GooseBreeder" Dobie's troops managed to run up a 10-5 score by halftime. From there, the two teams each exchanged four-round sprees before CLG Red clinched the two rounds they needed to close out Overpass 16-9.

Unfortunately for Kimberly "Kimmy" Nelson and co., Mirage unfolded in a similar fashion with CLG Red responding to Little Bocks' pistol round victory with a nine-round T-side trouncing before Little Bocks could stabilize, adding four of the final rounds of the half to their tally. Little Bocks then built on their strong first-half ending with three more rounds to begin their offense, but a fierce defense soon awaited them and CLG Red wasted no time in posting six consecutive rounds to take Mirage 16-8 to be crowned back-to-back champions of the ESEA Winter Women's Cash Cup.
