daps' squad had no issues securing an appearance in day two of the event

ESL Challenger League quartet headline day two of ESEA x Fragadelphia Winter Cash Cup 3

A fierce first day sees a number of high-profile teams fall short.

The first day of the third ESEA x Fragadelphia Winter Cash Cup drew to a close yesterday, with heavyweights Party Astronauts and Bad News Bears both being eliminated over the course of the event.

The first two rounds of the event largely unfolded in predictable fashion, with a Mythic lacking Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir convincingly taking down Redux whilst Third Impact triumphed over Spooky Squad with an overpowering 16-4 scoreline on Mirage. However, the round did see Bad News Bears flounder with their second consecutive early exit from a Cash Cup after a 16-10 loss at the hands of ESEA Advanced side Magic School Bus.

Heading into the third round, number one seed ChocoCheck continued their winning ways with a 16-10 victory over "god mode crocs" while Davenport University narrowly edged out Touch Point in overtime, needing a 19-15 scoreline to move forward in the tournament.

On the other side of the bracket, InControl lived up to their namesake by walking over Nocturnal Predators 16-3 while Damian "daps" Steele's Orgless project also came out victorious with an equally dominating 16-4 victory of their own against Cyberstorm.

Round four bore witness to Strife and Paul "aris" Wilson dispatching of his former teammates in X13 with a close 16-11 scoreline being needed to separate the two sides whilst Party Astronauts edged out INFINITY 16-8 on Inferno.

Elsewhere, RBG took care of business with a 16-9 victory against the recently-announced Vireo.pro roster whereas ONET4P avenged the Bears after besting Magic School Bus 16-10 on Ancient.

Heading into the quarterfinals, ChocoCheck guaranteed a top-four finish after moving past ATK relatively convincingly in a 16-9 affair whilst Strife upset Party Astronauts with a 16-5 thrashing on Overpass to send the incumbent champions home. Finally, Orgless and RBG both booked their places in day two of the event with 16-9 victories of their own versus Third Impact and ONET4P, respectively.

The full bracket can be viewed here.

The semifinal matches will be played out in a best-of-three fashion with the following matchups:

ChocoCheck vs. RBG

Orgless vs. Strife

The rest of the event continues later today at 4PM EST where the winning team will bag themselves a $4,000 payday, with the runners-up netting themselves $2,000 of their own.
