Grand finalists for MapCore's $10,000 contest chosen

The four winners for the mapping contest that saw a partnership with FACEIT and contributions from Valve have now been announced.

The FACEIT-powered contest kicked off by the game development community from MapCore has come to an end with de_Biome by jd40 claiming the $5,000 first place prize, as well as a spot on MapCore's FACEIT hub, and a "special prize" from Valve who's exact nature still remains unknown.

The special prize also gets awarded to the three other finalists, although the lion's share of the prize pool — alongside heavily emphasized bragging rights — remains in the hands of jd40.

Bartłomiej "Lizard" Guzek and thewhaleman were the runners up with their creation of de_Abbey, followed by de_Studio created by Ben "ZelZStorm" Bartle, TanookiSuit3, and Hollandje. The fourth finalist slot was claimed by Andre Valera and Michael "Jakuza" Jako  who designed de_kaizen.

All four maps are playable on MapCore's North American FACEIT hub, with an event set to kick off this weekend to encourage people to test out the maps for themselves.

The $10,000 prize pool was distributed among the top four as follows:

  1. de_Biome by jd40 - $5,000
  2. de_Abbey by Lizard and thewhaleman - $3,000
  3. de_Studio by ZelZStorm, TanookiSuit3, & Hollandje - $1,500
  4. de_Kaizen by Andre Valera and Jakuza
