If you only watch one CS2 tournament this year, make it the IEM Cologne Major. Running from 2 to 21 June 2026 culminating in Lanxess Arena (known as the Cathedral of Counter-Strike) in Cologne, Germany, it is the first Major Championship of the year - the Counter-Strike equivalent of the Super Bowl. Thirty-two of the world’s best teams, a $1,250,000 prize pool, and over 50,000 fans expected across three weeks of action. And every Major, the skin market moves with it. SkinScanner is where you track every price shift in real time.

How It Works
The tournament runs across three stages. The first two use a Swiss-system format - teams are matched against opponents with similar records, with the weakest sides eliminated along the way. The top eight teams from Stage 3 then advance to a single-elimination playoff bracket at the Lanxess Arena, where the champion is crowned on June 21st.
This year's field has a notably different look. Perennial heavyweights FaZe Clan failed to qualify - their first absence from a Major in the organization's history - which only adds to the sense that the established order is being tested. However, their former IGL, Finn "karrigan" Andersen, will be competing, leading his new star-studded roster at Falcons. That makes the question of who can challenge the defending champions all the more interesting.
The Main Storyline: Can Anyone Stop Team Vitality?
Team Vitality arrive in Cologne as back-to-back defending Major champions - and they are coming off arguably the most dominant stretch in Counter-Strike history. In April, they swept Team Spirit 3-0 in the IEM Rio 2026 grand final, claiming their fourth trophy of the 2026 season and becoming the first organization ever to win two ESL Grand Slams back-to-back. Four trophies in four months. It is not a hot streak - it is an era.
A third consecutive Major title would place this Vitality roster in a conversation with the greatest teams the game has ever seen. The pressure is enormous - but based on recent form, that seems to suit them just fine.
The teams most likely to challenge them are Natus Vincere (NAVI), ranked second in the world, who boast the individual firepower to cause an upset on any given day; and Falcons, ranked sixth, who have assembled one of the most star-studded rosters on the scene - featuring NiKo, m0NESY, and the recently added veteran IGL karrigan. Both teams have the talent to go deep. Whether they can match Vitality's consistency across a three-week tournament is the real question.
The Players to Watch
If you are new to the CS2 scene, here is all you need to know about Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut: he is almost certainly the best player in the world right now, and he has been for most of the last six years. The French AWPer - that is the player who wields the game's one-shot sniper rifle - has won four HLTV Player of the Year awards, three Major championships, and recently picked up his 31st career MVP medal at IEM Rio 2026, where he averaged a 1.56 rating across seven playoff maps. Those numbers are elite by any measure.
What makes ZywOo different from most elite AWPers is his versatility. He is just as dangerous with a rifle, and his composure in high-pressure elimination matches is a significant reason Vitality keep winning when it matters most. When Cologne gets to the playoff stage, he will be the player everyone is watching - and the one every opponent is planning around.
But ZywOo is not the only AWPer worth tracking in Cologne. On the Falcons side, keep an eye on Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov - at just 20 years old, he is already one of the most exciting AWPers in the world and a genuine match-winner on his day. A potential ZywOo vs m0NESY AWP battle in the playoffs would be one of the most compelling individual matchups the Major could deliver.

ZywOo's AWP - StatTrak™ AWP | Queen's Gambit. The world's best player has historically favored high-value AWP skins that match his status on the server. Whatever he is running at Cologne, it will be worth knowing about. You can check the current price and compare across marketplaces on SkinScanner here.
m0NESY's AWP - Souvenir AWP | Dragon Lore. Falcons' star AWPer is known for an aggressive, flashy style both in-game and in his inventory. Despite being viewed as the #2 option when it comes to AWP'ing, he is still one of the most entertaining players to watch. His skins tend to reflect that. Find it on SkinScanner here.
